No more hope for Nabco trainess
Can politicians be trusted? This is a multi million dollar question that Nabco Trainees are asking for an answer. The Nabco builder corp which is affectionately called Nabco was a flagship program introduced by Npp-Akuffo-Addo-Bawumia led government in 2018 aimed to curb and curtail graduate unemployment among the youth. It was also meant to provide platform form for young graduates to attain working experience and employability skills for future employment.
The Nabco program employed 100000 graduates and the duration of the program was 3 years of which 700ghc allowances was given to each trainee at the end of every month. So it started in 2018 and it was to end in 2021. After the end of the program, some graduates would be absorbed into public sector for permanent employment. Some would also be assisted to go into entrepreneurship while others would be sponsored to further their education, said the government.
But it seems all these promises to the nabco trainees by the government have become a mirage. Their 3 years duration ended on last year October 2021 and the government asked them to stay at post for additional 1 year. It is said to state that they have been at post for additional 9 months and the government has not paid them a dime.
On Monday 25th July, 2022, the finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta went to parliament of Ghana to present mid-year budget and he indicated that, the Nabco Trainees program is ending on 1st September this year and all the trainees must be prepared to be enrolled on you start program which is a new government initiative encouraging more people to venture into entrepreneurship.
This news made most Nabco Trainees disappointed they were waiting for permanent employment from the government. They claim not all of them can venture into entrepreneurship.
Maaconewsupdate gathers that, most Nabco Trainees are saying Ghanaian politicians can no be trusted and they begging the government to pay them their 9 months allowances.
