Police arrest 29 "Arise Ghana Demonstrators".

Press release from Ghana Police Service indicates that, it has arrested 29 demonstrators who took part in the "Arise Ghana Demonstration" yesterday in the capital city of Ghana, Accra. 

The demonstration turned violent and bloody when the demonstrators threw stones at the police. The police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd for causing damage to property.

According to the spokesperson, chief superintendent Grace Ansah-Akrofi, " the police have arrested 29 demonstrators for their participation in violent attacks on the police and some members of the public including school children during the Arise Ghana demonstration in Accra".

" Available video footages of the event are being reviewed and all other person's identified for taking in the attacks as well as inciting the violence will be arrested and brought to face justice". " Also, the organizers of the demonstration will be arrested and put before court for the attacks and damage to public property". the statement added.

" We would like to assure the public that we remain committed and professionally measured in the discharge of our constitutional mandate of enforcing law and order in the country ".

Earlier, the police said 12 officers were injured during the clash.

" What a shame, we were there to protect you and ensure your safety, but you throw stones at us, injure and hurt us", the police service tweeted, sharing pictures of injured officer.
The two-day Arise Ghana demonstration will continue and end today Wednesday.
