Nabco program; 8 months no pay, is it a success or failure?

Maaconewsupdate

Nation Builders Corp (Nabco) was introduced by Npp government in November 2018 aimed to give skills and working experience to graduate for future permanent employment and reduce graduate unemployment in the country. The government paid them Ghc700 as a monthly stipend or allowances. When the program ended after 3 years of implementation on October 2021, the government asked the Nabco Trainees to stay at post but have not paid them for sometimes now. The Nabco Trainees Association of Ghana (NABTAG) are therefore crying for their 8 months unpaid allowances and are threatening government not to start the launch of YOU START(entrepreneurship program) if government does not pay them. According to them, the operational mechanism of the scheme, as long as acquisition of job readiness skills and experience are concerned, objectively qualifies them to commend government for envisioning the initiative. However, the prevailing circumstances pertaining trainees' welfare do not cast a bright image over our prospect.

Maaconewsupdate has been reliably informed that, since government directive for Nabco Trainees to stay at post from last year October, the trainees have been dutifully reporting to work with no pay for the past (8) months, which amounts to a serious National Security threat as a nation. They claim to appreciate the ongoing processes aimed at enrolling section of trainees on to the yet-to-be-launched You start Program, but are pleading with government to pay the arrears due them because they are suffering.

It must be stated that, it does not send the right signal when government had not paid Nabco Trainees for the past 8 months, which has plunged them into severe hardship, but readying for the launch of 'YouStart'. The president's nonchalant attitude over the current situation is disparaging to its lowest point and attempts to place several calls on him to intervene have proven futile.

The program after 3 years of its implementation was to absorb some trainees on permanent employment, others on entrepreneurship and the rest on furthering their education. However, none of these promises has been fulfilled by government.

Now the plight of the Nabco Trainees is unbearable and suffering continues to engulfs them on daily basis. God save Nabco Trainees from their hardship.
