Arise Ghana demonstration turns bloody: 12 officers and some civilians injured!

Maaconewsupdate

Today, a group of disgruntled Ghanaians   called ''Arise Ghana Demonstrators'' hit the capital of Ghana, Accra, to demonstrate against the government on the hardship in the country. The initial plans of the demonstration was to be peaceful but in the course of it turned voilent and bloody.

The purpose of the demonstration was for government to address seemingly insecurities in the country, bad economy, hardship, high food prices, increase in fuel prices, corruption etc. The Demonstrators have some of the following inscriptions on their placards; (i.) Tell the president: we are suffering in the land of our birth? (ii.) Ghana beyond aid, scam! (iii.) Inflation is too high, why? (iv.) Agyabone not Agyapa. You have been exposed, Nana Akuffo Addo (v.) Taxation to production. E-levy is production. I guess. Scam! etc.

Before the demonstration, the IGP Akuffo Dampare admonished police officers to be professional in handling the Demonstrators. However, the demonstrators went wayward by throwing stones at the police officers and burnt tyres on the streets. This bad attitude and attack on the police by the demonstrators made the police react on equal manner.

The police officers responding on proportionate manner fired warning shots in the air to calm down the situation and also used water canon to disperse the crowd, but that did not work. So they went on to spray tear gas and pepper spray on the crowd to disperse them. As if that was not enough, the officers shot rubber bullets on the demonstrators.

Maaconewsupdate poses this question; even though the Arise Ghana demonstrators erred, was it proper for the police to retaliate in that manner, since the demonstrators have constitutional mandate to register their displeasure against the government of the day.

Some experts are of the view that the police officers must learn how to manage and control crowd properly.

All your comments are highly welcome.
